Hey Reader,
This FAQ is by me, for you.
I sat and asked myself questions that I thought you might have about me, why I started this newsletter, and how it could be of value to you.
- Who are you, whats your background, and do you actually know anything?
My name is Haroon, and I’m from the UK. I graduated from Birmingham City University with a First Class Degree in Games Development. I've worked as a Junior Web Developer, and I'm currently working as a Technical Specialist at ConvertKit. Despite experiencing imposter syndrome most days, I'd like to think I know a thing or two about Software Development. If I don't know something, that's a learning, and teaching opportunity.
- What kind of content can I expect from you?
The purpose of this newsletter is simple. I want to transition into a Software Engineering role, specialised in Swift Development. Consider this your comprehensive guide from 0 to 100. I'll be documenting everything I learn about Swift Development, from the basics, upwards. In order to transition into a Software Engineering role, I'll also need to explore additional topics beyond Swift Development. I'll be grinding through LeetCode to prepare for technical interviews, brushing up on data structures & algorithms, and more. Then finally, I'll be heading into the battlegrounds of job hunting. Initially, all the content I create will be in written form, sent directly to your inbox a few times a month. I do have a vague plan to create videos, but I need to give that some more thought.
- How much Swift Development do you know?
As of writing this, not much. I've partially completed the CS193p - Developing Apps for iOS course by Stanford. From here on out, I'll be Googling, YouTube-ing and ChatGPT-ing my way to success.
- Why are you sharing this journey?
I’ve been wanting to create a blog or newsletter for some time. I tied those mediums to side hustles, rather than my career. Since my side hustle plans are still uncertain, but I’m actively working on shifting my career trajectory, I thought, why not document this journey? I know there are many people who want to pursue Software Engineering as a career. If I'm able to create content that details how I'm doing it, perhaps others can learn from my journey, and apply it to their own. I'll certainly make mistakes along the way, and by sharing them, I hope to help others avoid those same pitfalls. In the end, this is meant to be a fun, challenging, and rewarding adventure. Even if I fall flat on my face, I'd rather that, than "what if?".
